Duster for the vertically challenged

Unless you play in the NBA, dusting ceiling fans and other high, out-of-reach objects is a real chore. Wrap a dryer sheet around a clean painting roller and secure the ends with rubber bands. Attach an extension handle to the roller and dust away.

Paint brush holder
Soak oil brushes in cleaning solvent without bending the bristles and ruining the brush! Clip a medium or large binder clip around the handle of a brush and spread the arms to span a cleaning container so the brush bristles don’t touch the bottom.

Closet doorknob rejuvenator
Rejuvenate the look of old passage-style closet doorknobs by reversing the knob and mounting the scratched half inside the closet. The seldom-used knob from inside the closet will look like new.

Drawer stop
To keep a drawer from being pulled out, create a drawer stop with a 3-in. strip of 1/8-in. metal bar stock. Drill a 3/16-in. hole 1 in. from one end. Screw the metal strip to the back of the drawer about 1 in. from the top so it’ll swing freely. Tip the strip and slide the drawer in. The heavier end of the strip hangs down and keeps the drawer from falling out.

Trailer dolly
As I’ve gotten older, it’s become increasingly difficult for me to manually move my trailer around. So I drilled a hole in a dolly 1-1/2 in. from the edge, then stacked 10 washers onto a 1/2-in. carriage bolt, stuck it through the hole, and tightened it down with a washer and nut. Now I hook the bolt and washer assembly onto the trailer tongue and can easily pull the trailer around.
