Every time my wife wants to hang wallpaper, I use every stall tactic in the book. Not because I hate to put it up, but because I know I’ll eventually be the one removing it. And that means renting a wallpaper steamer or using chemical removers. That’s all going to change. Now she can do it with Wallwik Wallpaper and Paste Remover. It only requires one chemical—a squirt of dish soap mixed with tap water—and there’s no trip to the rental store.

First you score the old wallpaper with the toothed wheels of the scoring tool. (Think tick-tack-toe pattern.) But be careful. Push too hard and you’ll damage the drywall paper. Then you soak the Wallpaper and Paste Removal Sheets in a bucket of soapy water and stick them to the wallpaper. Keep them damp for 30 to 45 minutes, and then remove the sheets and peel off the wallpaper.

Kit parts are sold separately. You’ll need the scoring tool ($6.49), a package of remover sheets (ten 22 x 46-in. sheets for $19.99) and the Pressure Sprayer ($12.99). The kit is available at paint and decorating stores and at hardware stores.
