Remove Candle Wax From Carpeting

Scraping and blotting will remove most candle wax from rugs

If wax spills on your carpet, don’t panic!! Let the wax harden, and afterward follow the steps shown in Photos 1 and 2 for a successful cleanup. NOTE: Not all candle stains will come out completely. Some spills may require professional cleaning.


1. Scrape up the hardened wax. Use a plastic knife to avoid damaging the carpet fibers. Be patient; only about two-thirds of the wax will come out with this first step.


2. Blot out the remaining wax. Apply three layers of plain white paper towels. Warm an iron at its lowest heat setting. Move the iron continually over the towels to soften the wax and absorb it into the towels. For the best results, repeat this step several times with fresh layers of toweling. To avoid scorching the carpet, keep the iron moving over the stain and place additional layers of towels around the stain area so that the iron never directly touches the carpet.
