1. Old people are either very generous or give you one peanut. There is no in-between.

Tootsie Rolls have been out of fashion for a few years now...

Some advanced thoughts from a 3rd grader! 6. Handing out candy is like serving wine at a party. People serve the good stuff first and save the not-so-good stuff for later. The longer you stay out on Halloween night, the worse the candy gets.

Its really safer to go with face painting rather than a mask that impairs your vision. And it might be safer to go to a church festival instead of cruising your neighborhood. Just check the predators list of who lives where. Know who lives nearby.

Please, Please do not encourage children to run while Trick or Treating. They might forget and run out in front of a car or some other vehicle.

No. 7 is not quite true. I don't decorate as much as when my boys were smaller, but I still decorate, but more for fall than Halloween. BUT, that doesn't mean that I don't give out the GOOD candy. I can spend more on candy since I didn't spend it on decorations!

I don't agree with number 6 at all! By the end of the night I give away handfuls just to get it out of the house. Maybe you are going to the wrong neighborhood.

I SOOO disagree with number 6. Last year we bought a giant case of ruffles, a big bag of chocolates, and two cases of monopoly themed candies. We got 4 trick or treaters. At the start we were generous, but by the end of the night we were chasing down any people we could find. We went all the way down to the corner and shouted :FREE CANDY! and the children all gathered in a huddle and then we threw ALL of the candy up in the air. Everyone got like, 10 bags of chips and a bunch of candy Tip 6 Lies

I love Halloween! The neighborhood kids help me decorate for Halloween as my kids are grown. Then I give them "something extra" in their bag as a thank you. My husband & I dress up, play scary music, and help the local kids carve pumpkins which they helped me grown in the yard. OK, I am NOT Martha Stewart, but have always been this way for this holiday.

Wow---EVERYONE needs to take a step back, take the kids "secrets" with a grain of salt (see back posts) and take the mom's comments as just that--comments. If they are cheap, or selfish or judgemental, etc. --they have to live with it. It's Halloween.! All types of people, kids, and teens go out to "celebrate". As long as they aren't hurting anyone---let it go. If you open your door or if you knock on a door- you take what you get. Enjoy this through your kids and make their memories happy

Tricia, what happened? Who appointed you the judge of costumes and people? Either give generously to everyone or sit home in the dark not answering the door. I think you are "so sad"
