Getting Started
The mitered frame on this bulletin board is actually no more than applied decoration and requires no reinforcement, but it sets off this useful project very well. Don't be fooled by the simplicity of the miter. It is a difficult joint to cut accurately.| Cutting List | |
| The size and shape of this project relies on the dimensions of the cork tiles you can find, though of course you could cut larger ones to size or build them up from smaller tiles. The thickness of the packing pieces (C) sandwiched between the molding (B) and base (A) must match the thickness of the tiles (D) and be 1/4 inch (6 mm) narrower than the molding you choose. The packing piece can be made from MDF (medium-density fiberboard), plywood, or lumber. With so many potential variations, we are not publishing a full cutting list, though as a guide, our bulletin board is 28 x 40 inches (711 x 1016 mm), and the base is made from 3/8-inch (10-mm) plywood or MDF. | |
