Chronic bad breath may indicate a more serious disorder, but for everyday problems try one of the following:

Chew herbs. Chewing fresh parsley or fresh mint leaves helps freshen breath.

Mouthwash. Bring 2 cups water to boil in a small saucepan. Remove from the heat. Add 3 teaspoons fresh or dried parsley, 2 teaspoons whole cloves, 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon, and 2 teaspoons peppermint extract. Let the mixture steep for about an hour. Strain the mixture into a jar or bottle with a tightly fitting lid; discard the solids. Will keep for two weeks in the refrigerator.
