You will have many more options for good lighting if you install dimmer switches on your overhead lights and floor lamps. Dimmer switches allow you to control the intensity of light from each fixture. With a series of dimmer switches, you can regulate the light in each part of the room. (Dimmers come with instructions for installing them; it is not very different from installing an ordinary light switch.) To light a room properly, the first goal is to provide a uniform lighting that lets the eye scan from one end of the room to the other without interruption. Then you can concentrate on highlighting pieces of art or plant arrangements.
