Aluminum Pie Pans
Glitter is notorious for turning up in the corners and crevices of your home long after your youngster's masterpiece has been mailed off to Grandma. But you can minimize some messes by using an aluminum pie pan to encase projects involving glitter, beads, spray paint, feathers ...well, you get the picture.

Coat Hangers
Make mobiles for the kids' room using wire coat hangers; paint them in bright colors. Or use hangers to make wings and other accessories for costumes.

Cornstarch
This simple recipe will keep the kids happy for hours. Mix together 1/4 cup cornstarch and 2 cups cold water. Bring to a boil and continue boiling until the mixture becomes thick. Pour your product into several small containers and add food coloring to each container. You've created a collection of homemade finger paints.

Tape
Tape a few different-colored markers or pencils together and give them to the kids to draw multicolored designs. Be careful not to use too many, so the children can maintain control of the drawings.

Yogurt
Ready for some messy rainy-day fun? Mix food coloring with yogurt to make finger paints and let the little ones go wild. You can even turn it into a lesson about primary and secondary colors. For example, have the kids put a few drops of yellow food coloring and a few drops of blue in the yogurt to make green finger paint. Or mix red and blue to produce purple.
