You Will Need
- Open-weave linen or cross-stitch embroidery fabric in cream or beige
- Wide and narrow silk ribbons in shades of mauve, blue and green
- Needles: chenille size 18 and crewel size 8
- Disappearing marker
- Card stock for a window mount
What to Do
1. Work on a piece of fabric about 4 inches square. Mark the fabric with a center point and then nine equally spaced radiating lines around this, about 3/4 inch long. Work this outer layer of petals in blue ribbon stitch, using a wide ribbon.
2. Now add a second, inner layer of petals in mauve ribbon stitch. Then fill the center of the flower with French knots made from narrow deep-mauve ribbon. Use narrow ribbon in two shades of green. Work lazy-daisy stitches in one shade to create leaves and straight stitches in the second shade to make stems.
3. To make the bow, first create the two loops by working large lazy-daisy stitches using a wide blue ribbon. Make sure that the loops are the same size. Make a single loose running stitch in the center to form the knot. Then carefully bring the ribbon out from the center of the bow under the knot and cut off the end to make a tail. Make another tail in the same way and trim them both at an angle to complete.
