Media Cabinet

My media cabinet is based on the Shaker Bookcase design from the January 09 magazine. I hated all the TV stand designs I saw (or couldn't afford the ones I liked), so I figured maybe I should try building one. I considered making a glass door for the middle bay, but decided that would complicate access to the DVD player. This is my first attempt building furniture, and I am happy to say that when I stood on the cabinet to hang the pictures (with 88 lbs of TV already on top), it never let out so much as a creak. It's made with oak and oak plywood, weighs a ton, and is affectionately known as "The Beast."
