I never used sandpaper to clean the inside burr of the cut in my 29 years as a Journeyman Pipefitter. Your best to use a 1/2 round file to clean up the inside cut & to put on a slight chamfer (bevel) on the outside diameter of the plastic pipe. it also helps to slide the pipe into the fitting.
