How does a neighborhood celebrate itself? Radburn, New Jersey, throws a party. Every third weekend in July, Radburn — built in 1929 as one of the first planned communities — hosts a barbecue, with pie eating contests, scavenger hunts and dancing, for its 670 families. Just 15 miles west of Manhattan, Radburn offers 23 acres of open space. How open and friendly? Young marrieds are moving back to raise their kids.
