Talk about having a steady hand. Florence Verstynen has been a crossing guard in Norfolk, Virginia, for more than 50 years, occupying her current post at Piping Rock Road and Pebble Lane since 1961, when her children were in school. Every school day, rain or shine, she’s been safely ferrying three generations of kids to and from Poplar Halls Elementary. “There’s no place I’d rather be,” she says.
