Wildlife biologist Russ Weatherbee had long heard about a hidden waterfall in the Whiskeytown National Recreation Area near Redding, California. In 2003, while poring over an old map, he spotted a tiny notation: “Waterfall.” After one failed attempt to reach it, he studied computerized maps and saw a flash of silver. He made another foray and finally located the 240-foot cascade. That summer, a new trail to the falls opened; all can now enjoy the treasure.
