Consider the International Quilt Festival in Houston, Texas, the World’s Fair of its kind. It’s not just the show’s size (its four-day run draws up to 55,000 people) that makes it the ultimate quilting event. “It’s the exhibits, the workshops, the marketplace,” says Ann Calland, museum manager of the Quilters Hall of Fame in Marion, Indiana. Anyone who is anyone in quilting turns out — to show their wares, to share their skills, and to find out what their fellow quilters have been up to. In 2011, the festival marks its 36th anniversary.
