November 19, 2008, 03:20 PM Holiday Gift Ideas for Mom By Laura Silsby

Every holiday season, I get nostalgic and take a trip down Christmas tree lane. I think about how hard my mom worked to make the holidays special. I remember how she gushed over and proudly displayed all of the gifts she received from us. You would have thought that the gold painted macaroni picture frame was 24 ct gold. And she acted as if her plastic beaded bracelet was an accessory made of priceless gems.  Year after year, regardless of the gift, she would treasure my gifts as though she was the luckiest woman on earth.

Through the years, my Mom has been by my best friend and biggest fan... always there to encourage me in the midst of life's challenges and eager to celebrate life's joys.  So as much as the salt dough ornament pleased her (it's in a prominent place on her tree every year), I've stepped it up now and love to spoil and surprise her at Christmas.  I ask myself...What hasn't she done before? What is something that she would adore, but would never, in a million years, buy herself?

Gifts Mom will Treasure.    So for the one who knows you best (and still loves you), find a great gift that will convey how much you really care and value her support.  Select a thoughtful gift based on what brings her the greatest enjoyment.  Here are a few of my ideas to help you select the perfect gift for your mom.   Every mom is unique, so if you don't find the perfect gift below, I invite you to go to PersonalShopper.com and let the free MyGifts service help you find a gift that will truly delight her this year.

The best gifts cannot be wrapped.  Set aside time to spend alone with Mom.  It can simply be a day together doing what she enjoys most or plan a weekend getaway to a place she has always wanted to see.  It will mean more to her than you may ever know.  Together you will create lasting memories she will treasure for the rest of her life.

What are your most memorable moments with your Mom?
For you Moms, what would you value most this holiday season?

** TickleMe Plant - It Moves ** A great green low cost gift that will make every mom smile is to grow a TickleMe Plant and watch it MOVE when Tickled! The leaves quickly fold and even the branches droop when tickled. I found this to be a great stress reliever in my office and what a conversation piece!. You may have seen the TickleMe Plant in the botanical gardens.. Now it can be grown indoors year round. No green thumb needed. I found it on line at http://www.ticklemeplant.com

I would LOVE a spa treatment as a gift, but usually just end up with bubble bath.

This year we are giving mom a digital frame... but not until after Christmas day is over. We are going to use the digital card to fill it with pictures of this year before we give it to her.
