Remember that acrobat on the high wire? Sometimes just reaching out for a touch of reassuring support or an extra counterweight, we can restore balance and keep from teetering over the edge. Trying to do everything alone can leave us physically and emotionally drained, and it doesn't even make good business sense!
Women are care givers; often responsible for childcare, elder care, and home care. Women also tend to build and nurture friendships and social connections—both work and non-work related.
So with all this giving, it can be difficult for many to be on the receiving end of assistance. Women often feel guilty about asking for and accepting offers of help. They may feel ashamed to even admit they can't do it all.
And yet, busy executives who are on their way to the million dollar mark do have to become adept at sharing the load. Delegating tasks within your business is important, but there are a multitude of resources available to you outside of the four walls of your office.
1. Reach out to your family. They may not be directly involved with or know your business as well as your do, but they do know you. They may have some insight or ideas that haven’t occurred to you yet.
2. If you can afford it, hire an assistant. They can take over some of the day-to-day tasks that often distract you from the bigger picture. You’ll be free to work on your business instead of in it.
3. Get a coach! Every M3 Racer who has reached the million-dollar mark has had a business coach. They can help you articulate your goals and then strategize ways to reach them.
4. Network, network, network! Talk to other women business owners. Chances are, they’ve had similar experiences and can sympathize and offer advice.
And—cut yourself some slack. Sure, it’s easier said than done, but it’s worth the effort. No one ever said that being an entrepreneur was easy. No woman can do it totally on her own. Allow yourself to ask for help and accept it when it’s offered. You—and your business—will be better off for it.
