This blog goes out to all the people - women and men who don't watch the Super Bowl. My husband Gary has just left to join friends at a Super Bowl Party at an Italian restaurant in what is left of the printing district in New York City, meanwhile I was getting a delightful pedicure and manicure at Serenity Spa around the corner from our apartment.
Maria owns the spa. I know her because she received an early micro loan from Count Me In when we both first started our ventures. Her business is generally thriving, she paid back her loan years ago - her business has appeared to have slowed down some the past few times I been here but there are new faces in here tonight, either refugees from Super Bowl parties or maybe they are on their way to one.
I don't think I have ever been to a Super Bowl Party - I have no interest in football, atomic chicken wings (tender tummy) or beer (allergic). I like both Arizona and Pittsburg. (Our new Homeland Security Czar Janet Napolitano spoke at our Make Mine a Million $ Business event in Phoenix last year - she was Arizona's Gov and she was great.) I must confess - the only football games I ever went to were at Princeton University - up the road from Trenton where I grew up. My father enjoyed the games, and my sisters and I loved going with him. We always had hot dogs and cracker jacks. They were the only Saturdays when he didn't work, except for in the summer when we drove to the Jersey Shore for the day. I do sometimes watch the half-time show…I will tonight, but that’s because I’m a Jersey Girl and have always loved Bruce Springsteen's music. I saw him perform at the We Are One concert that kicked off the Obama inauguration, where he opened up with his song "The Rising," the lead track on his album focused on 9/11. It made me cry the first time I heard it almost 8 years ago and it made me cry two Sundays ago. Reminding me again of the fear and sadness of that time and how this Inauguration was turning a new and different chapter for the country and the world. President Obama's first interview with Arab TV confirmed how different his approach is going to be.
I need to be looking and feeling my best this week. Today it was finally warm enough in New York to get myself energized and ride my bike around, and then get myself spruced up with a mani/pedi. I am scheduled to be on the Today Show next week to talk about M3 Race. I am so excited! And that reminds me, I need to go talk to Maria and make sure she has joined.
If you haven’t joined the M3 RACE yet, it’s not too late! Register today at www.makemineamillion.org.
