
While most the U.S. is not vegetarian (including myself) they may still be interested in knowing the unusual places that animals can show up.
1. Candy
Most people know that gelatin is made from animal byproducts. It is commonly made by boiling the bones and connective tissue of cattle or pigs. What they don't realize is how many different products it can show up in. Check out petakids.com for a list of candy without this additive and check labels if you want to avoid it.
2. Wine
Fining is a process of removing impurities from wine with a protein source. This can be gelatin, egg whites or the, so-called "Rolls Royce" of fining, Isinglass. Sounds lovely but it's actually made from the swim bladders of certain fish. Cheers!

3. Cheese
Rennet is an enzyme traditionally from the stomach lining of a calf used to make cheese. The calf uses rennet to digest its mother's milk. Many vegetarian cheeses use a vegetable based substitute.
4. Lipstick
