One hundred years ago, London bookbinder Joseph Dent created a collection of books that would “appeal to every kind of reader.” Furthering that tradition, in 1991 Alfred A. Knopf, Inc., began releasing the first of some 300 classics, 60 volumes of poetry, and 50 children’s stories that make up its Everyman’s Library. The books are printed on natural-cream paper and have cloth covers and silk ribbon place markers. And the classy volumes are affordable — most sell for $20 or less.
