Debbie Reynolds

Jan 26, 2012

You probably know a lot of things about Debbie Reynolds, but you may not know that she owned one of the greatest collections of Hollywood memorabilia ever assembled, if not the greatest collection. She recently sold a lot of it off, including the dress that Marilyn Monroe wore standing over that subway in The Seven Year Itch. (It went for the tidy sum of $4.6 million dollars.) Before going on you might want to read Debbie Reynolds Auction Breaks Up Historic Hollywood Collection.

Reynolds herself is still out there, still performing. She’s one of the handful of the classic Hollywood stars still with us, and still active. Her big break was her part in Singin’ in the Rain in 1952, and she’s in a movie coming out this week, One for the Money. That’s a pretty impressive career. And as far as home life is concerned, her next door neighbor is Carrie Fisher. I love the way Reynolds puts it in an interview with Irene Lacher in the LA Times: “We have a definite daughter-mother relationship, not a roller-skating relationship. Some people just join hands and glide around the ring. We don’t do that.”

It’s nice to know that Debbie Reynolds is doing well. Catch up with her in The Sunday Conversation: Debbie Reynolds.
