1. Measure the “backset,” the distance
between the door edge and the center of the door knob; the
thickness of the
door; and the knob hole diameter. Buy a reinforcer that fits all
those
measurements.

2. Unscrew the two screws on the inside knob and
remove both knobs. Also remove the two 3/4-in. latch screws, but
leave the
latch in place.

3. Slide the three-sided reinforcer plate onto the
door. Secure it to the latch with the two 1-1/2 in. screws
provided and remount
the doorknobs.

4. Drill four 3/32-in. pilot holes and install the
corner screws on the interior and exterior sides of the reinforcer
plate.
