If you have 1 hour… Feed the Hungry
Open up your pantry and gather non-perishable items such as canned soups, beans, and pasta to take to your local food bank. Visit Feeding America and enter your zip code to find the closest food bank.

If you have 1 day… Help Clean Up Your Community
Participate in a local environmental clean-up day or start your own with family and friends. Go to your local park, beach, or hiking trail and pick up all the trash you see—bottles, cans, newspapers and more. Be sure to wear gloves and recycle every item you can. For information on what is recyclable and where your nearest recycling center is located, visit Earth 911.

If you have 1 week… Go on a Volunteer Vacation

If you have 1 week… Go on a Volunteer Vacation
Turn your vacation into a way to give back. You won't be spending your time reading poolside but you will be able to experience a new place, meet new people, and help those less fortunate. Programs range from teaching English in South America to working with endangered species in Africa. For volunteer vacation ideas, visit away.com or Cross Cultural Solutions.

If you have 1 month… Do Something Seasonal
Every season of the year presents great opportunities to give back.

Summer - Lend your athletic expertise as a coach for a summer sports' club or help a child organize a lemonade stand to raise money for a charity.

Fall - Rake leaves for someone who physically cannot or volunteer for a children's after-school program.

Winter - Shovel snow for an elderly neighbor or "adopt" a less fortunate family for the holidays and buy gifts and food.

Spring - Create a community garden or give your closet a "spring cleaning" and donate old clothes to a charity.

If you have 1 year… Pick a Cause and Set a Goal
Pick a charity or cause that is close to your heart and set a monetary goal that you would like to raise over the course of the year. Then pick a date to deliver the check to the organization of your choice. Whether you decide to sell bake goods, write grants, organize a black tie event or run a race to raise money, plan out week-by-week details of how you are going to raise the money. Make sure to get your family and friends involved so you have plenty of support in reaching your goal.

i almost died at my local hospital last year due to congestive heart failure. they did such a wonderful job, so earlier this year i started volunteering a couple days a week. i do various duties such as the info desk, lab, mail delivery and so on. and i get so much enjoyment from this. your local hospital could always use your help. In Christ, Nelson
