Q Call me a rookie, but I was wondering if there is a right (or wrong) way to toenail 2x4 studs or joists into plates?
A For maximum holding power, the rule of thumb to remember is to drive the nail (as shown) at a 30-degree angle to the 2x4. Start it approximately one-third the length of the nail from the end of the piece.
