Yellow blotches on porcelain sinks
| Use a wet pumice stone and scrub gently, says Ellis Finch of the Maids Home Services in Honolulu.
Dirty gas-stove burner grates and drip pans
| Place grates and cast-iron, stainless steel or enamel pans in a nonaluminum pot, cover with baking soda and water, and boil a few minutes, says Peter A. Ciullo, author of Baking Soda Bonanza. Let cool; soak and scour.
Stains on carpet or upholstery
| Place the Woolite Pod ($4), a handheld tool with a built-in cleaner and scrubbers, over the stain. Dispense the solution and scrub lightly. In our test, it eradicated a three-month-old cola stain on a white cotton ottoman.
Grimy toilet bowls
| Give the bowl an old-fashioned cleaning, then insert Kaboom NeverScrub! ($10 for a kit, $4.70 for a three-month refill) in the tank. Flush, and a cleaner goes into the bowl, not the tank, to keep parts from corroding.
