KenKen Puzzles

Invented by a Japanese teacher, Tetsuya Miyamoto, the KenKen puzzle adds another layer of challenge by introducing math to the traditional Sudoku.

Enjoy these puzzles presented by Will Shortz.

Rules
1. Fill in each box in the easier puzzle with a number from 1 to 4; in the harder puzzle, 1 to 6.

2. Do not repeat a number in any row or column.

3. The numbers in each heavily outlined set of squares, called cages, must combine (in any order) to produce the target number in the top corner using the mathematical operation indicated.

We just tried to find the kenken in the Oct. issue, too! I scan them every month and make 3 copies for the three who do them in my family! Please don't drop this puzzle.

I can't find it!!! I looked everywhere in the October issue and can't find KenKen. Please tell me it will be back. I really enjoy the new challenge and at my age I really need the mental stimulation. Thanks for a great periodical, I look forward to every issue.

I like to do kenken. In the October issue of Reader's Digest, I was unable to find it. Has it been taken out? If so, please put it back in. I notice positive comments on your page.

It is fantastic that you are including KenKen in the Reader's Digest! It's a great brain-trainer. You can learn strategy for difficult KenKen in free videos at http://mathmojo.com/kenken. You can also add your own strategy methods in the comments. Happy solving! Brian (a.k.a. Professor Homunculus at MathMojo.com )
