New York’s Museum of Modern Art—better known as MoMA—announced Thursday that 14 video games will soon be added to its collection, with another 26 planned for later. Among them is the arcade classic Pac-Man, which should please old school pixel junkies. But there are also some more, shall we say, avant-garde titles: The cult rhythm game Vib-Ribbon, for instance, or Katamari Damacy, wherein players roll cows, buildings, and more into a massive ball for the sake of rebuilding the shattered cosmos.
“The games are selected as outstanding examples of interaction design—a field that MoMA has already explored and collected extensively, and one of the most important and oft-discussed expressions of contemporary design creativity,” Paola Antonelli, MoMA’s senior curator in the department of architecture and design, told the Times.
