The other day it was time for my annual
changing of the smoke alarm battery. As I was changing the battery, the phone
rang, so I dashed to answer it, putting the battery in my pocket. While
enjoying a nice conversation, I felt a burning sensation on my leg and smelled
a curious electrical odor. I started to jump around as the pain became worse. I
reached into my pocket, grabbed the battery and the loose change in my pocket
and threw them onto the floor. Evidently, the coins had shorted across the
battery posts and heated up the battery, which then scorched my leg. Next time
I’ll let the answering machine get the call!
