When we moved into our new home, we inherited two dead electrical outlets in the kitchen. I noticed that one of the outlets was a GFCI, and that the reset button had somehow broken off. I installed a new GFCI, but the two dead outlets still didn’t work. Hmm. Perhaps a wire had come loose. I proceeded to diagram the system and pulled out and tested all the outlets in the kitchen. No luck. I consulted an electrical expert. No solution. I talked to another. He asked if I had checked the reset button on the new GFCI. With a sense of dread, I pressed the button. The dead outlets came alive again, but my ego was shot!
