I’m Melting . . .

When we moved into our new home, we brought our old spare fridge along. My husband (the son of an electrician) wired a new outlet in the garage for the fridge. We plugged it in and then loaded it up. The next day I went out and noticed the food wasn’t as cold as it should be.

I mentioned it to my husband that evening and he turned the light on in the garage and checked the fridge. It seemed to be running just fine. We set the fridge to run colder.

The next day we went out to get ice cream. It was completely melted. Exasperated, he came back into the house. When he reached the door, I shut the light off and heard the refrigerator stop. Then it dawned on me—the switch controlled the outlet. Needless to say, we had to throw away all the thawed food. The next day we rewired the outlet to make it independent of the light switch.
