Space is at a premium in our house, so we make use of every square foot. Last year I decided to build a shelf in the laundry room to store all the detergents, prewash additives and bleach bottles. I carefully measured the space between the washer and ceiling and calculated the number of shelves to fit the space. I got right to work. After finishing my shelving project, I stepped back to admire my space-saving genius just as my wife entered the room and lifted the washer lid. It hit the lower shelf and would only open halfway!
