When I purchased my new home, I decided to install a metal security pin to lock the patio doors to each other.

The pin installation required drilling a hole into both doors. After I drilled through the first door panel, my bit met resistance, so I leaned into the drill. The bit suddenly went through, and to my surprise, the glass in the second patio door exploded into a thousand pieces. The costly moral: Avoid drilling into the edge of tempered glass.
