After spending a frustrating four hours replacing a
kitchen faucet, I finally got the new one to quit leaking. But when I turned on
the water, none came out: hot
or cold. Frustrated, I called a plumber. He
arrived and listened as I described the problem. Promptly, he unscrewed the
small aerator screen from the tip of the faucet and tapped out a small pile of
flaky material. These hard water deposits were clogging the faucet. During the
faucet replacement, this crud had been dislodged from the pipes. The bill for
his 30-second remedy: $40.
