The stove in our new house was 21 years old. When Thanksgiving came, we put the turkey in and it was roasting just fine. Then we started boiling the potatoes. Minutes later, I noticed the oven was off. The burners and the oven wouldn’t work at the same time. With a lot of fussing, we finally got dinner ready. Later I rewired the burners; no change. The plug seemed loose, so I replaced the 220-volt outlet; still no change.

Feeling defeated, we bought a new stove. It didn’t work either. Finally I checked the 220-volt circuit breaker. One leg was corroded. I replaced it and the new stove worked fine.

We decided to donate the old one. When the guy came to pick it up, we told him it worked and he replied, “Oh, another bad circuit breaker, huh?” I guess he sees that a lot.
