I needed to get some lumber for a project, so I decided to take my extended cab pickup to haul it. The project called for a 16-ft. 2x4. This was obviously too long to haul in the box, so I opened the back window of the cab and slid the 2x4 through to rest on the dashboard. I tied a red flag on the extra few feet of the 2x4 that hung out past the box. On the way home I decided to stop for coffee. To keep anyone from tampering with my lumber, I thought I’d back into a parking space against the building. Completely forgetting about the long 2x4 sticking out the back of the box, I heard a loud crash and glass flew everywhere. The 2x4 resting on the dash was shoved through the front windshield when it hit the building behind. That was an expensive 2x4!
