Fit a file handle on the tang - the pointed end of a file or rasp - to give you greater
leverage and a safer grip on the tool.
Using a File Handle
Insert the tang into the hole in the handle, and then tap the handle on a flat surface to
seat the file securely. Never use a hammer to pound a file into the handle.
To release the file, gently tap the ferrule (the metal band at the base of the handle) on
the edge of a flat surface while you pull on the handle.
Purchasing
Handles are typically bought separately from files and rasps. Some models are adjustable,
to fit any file or rasp (as well as small saw blades); these have a knurled knob or screw
on one end that controls the jaws on the opposite end. You can also buy plastic handles
that come with removable inserts, which accept a variety of popular file sizes.
