Ingredients
- Two 10-ounce packages frozen raspberries or strawberries
- 6 cups water
- 1 1/2 cups sugar
- 10 whole cloves
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cardamom
- Six 3 x 1/2-inch strips of orange zest (orange part only)
- 1 vanilla bean, split
- 2 cups orange juice
- 2 cups club soda

In a large nonreactive saucepan, bring berries, water, sugar, cloves, cardamom, zest, and vanilla bean to a boil. Reduce the heat to moderately low and simmer, uncovered, stirring occasionally, about 10 minutes.

Strain through a fine sieve (do not press solids), and cool to room temperature. Stir in orange juice. When ready to serve, stir in club soda. Serve over ice.
