People aren't going to Acura dealerships looking for an Audi
With a glut of used (oops, we mean pre-owned!) autos in dealer lots, it's prime time to shop for that luxury car of your dreams. Here, best-deal tips from AutoHeroes.com's Chris Burdick:
- Buy off-brand One of his clients recently bought a 2002 Audi A4 at an Acura dealership for $4,000 less than the same model at an Audi dealership. "People aren't going to Acura dealerships looking for an Audi," he says.
- Ask for demos or cars bought at auction That way you may get a price closer to what the car cost the dealership (found on Edmunds.com or the Kelley Blue Book site, kbb.com). Trade-ins are costlier for the dealer, so you'll pay more too.
- Check how long it's been there Stickers on the windshield may give this away, or cruise the lot often. If a car's been there a month or more the dealer may have several, or it's not in high demand, meaning there's more room for negotiation.
