In July 2003, Tanya Streeter broke the world free-diving record, her fifth, beating men and women in the variable-weight category. While descending 400 feet on a weighted sled in the waters of the Turks and Caicos, she held her breath for 3 minutes, 38 seconds. The pressure crumpled her lungs to the size of small grapefruits. When in training, she can hold her breath for six minutes!
