Blood Orange: Citrus Superstar?

The orange's close cousin is pure glam, aside from being a nutrition powerhouse. Learn why the blood orange is this month's food hero.

Blood OrangeCorbis
Forget the gory name: This close cousin of the orange is pure glam. Its ruby flesh is tart yet sweet, with a hint of berry, and adds a rosy touch when used in salads, salsas, and marmalades, says cookinglight.com.

Just one of these citrus superstars also provides more than 100 percent of your daily requirement of immunity-boosting vitamin C and at least 12 percent of your daily fiber, reports livestrong.com. Winter is their prime time, so blood oranges are most affordable now.

So nice. To get more health, I will try more blood orangers. But, in supremarket it is unusually to buy such pure gory color, all are with another yellow color.

I’ve been looking for blood oranges at several supermarkets for  almost a year. I understand they’re grown in Spain. So, what time of year can we expect to find them &  where or who sells them?

Hi , I’m new here but as for finding the blood oranges I just bought some today at a whole foods market in Sugarland , Tx. In case those of you unfamiliar with whole food markets , thier a type of grocery store that sells mostly organic type foods of almost everything you can imagine to eat , or use even on the body such as homemade soaps, salt baths & so on ! They carry fruits & veg. From all over the world as far as I can tell ! Hope you can find them ; take care!
        Sincerely, G. Brinkley

Look up the name Becnel on the internet they can ship them from Louisiana. this is a family name and there are several different Becnels that sell citrus. Ben Becnel sandy Becnel(sticks and stems nursery) and others. Also look up Plaquemines Parish Louisiana there may be other businesses that have them.
