About This Project
You thought you’d solved that toilet problem by replacing both the fill valve and the flapper—but it still “runs.” Rather than ignoring the constant trickle, take a half hour and do this fix.
Shut off the water at the supply valve under the tank, flush the toilet and sponge the tank dry. Lift the flapper out of the way and feel around the drain lip for mineral deposits, which feel rough.
If you find deposits, sand around the lip with emery paper and then wipe it clean. Check that the flapper closes and seals the drain. Turn the water supply valve back on and let the tank fill. If there’s no dripping, the problem is solved.
