Walking is probably the most underappreciated physical activity ... It's effective, and easy.
Once a month, 8-year-old Becky Parsons of Apex, North Carolina, walks to school with her mom. On the way, she joins other kids and moms. It's part of the Walking School Bus, a safe, healthy way for kids to get to school.

"Walking is probably the most underappreciated physical activity," says Dr. Robert Holmberg of the American Academy of Pediatrics. "It's effective, and easy." To organize a program in your town, visit KidsWalk. And on September 28, America On the Move Day of Action, join a 2,000-step walk or add 2,000 steps to your day (Americaonthemove.org).
