“But it’s a full-body exercise that combines strength training with cardio, making it an extremely efficient workout,” says Chris Ives, a spokesperson for rowing machine maker Concept2 who is also a group rowing instructor in New York City.Now a growing number of fitness clubs are offering group classes—for all ages and abilities. You control the intensity, and can burn 500 to 1,000 calories an hour.
