When it comes to makeup, glitter only works for the younger crowd. But a subtle shimmer looks good on everyone, so cosmetic companies are adding a touch of glow to everything.

"This has long been a makeup artist's trick to create healthy, flawless-looking skin," says Sara Strand, creator of Pop Beauty, available at sephora.com. "Shimmer can transform dull skin, and reflect light away from fine lines."

There's a product for every budget: Try Prescriptives Colorscope Cheek Color or Laura Mercier's Pure Metal Liquid Crystal Lip Glaces. At the drugstore, try Cover-Girl Eyeslicks Gel Eyecolor, Revlon Eyeglide Shimmer Shadow or Maybelline Forever Metallics Lipstick.

Don't use more than one of these products at a time. And while a subtle shimmer is fine for day, intensely metallic makeup is more suited to a festive evening look.
