Before choosing your health insurance plan, see if it has a report card or accreditation:

Accreditation groups, such as Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations and National Committee for Quality Assurance, evaluate insurers by a number of quality standards, while A. M. Best and Company rates their financial health. Some plans survey their members and issue their own report cards.

The National Association of Insurance Commissioners has both independent report cards and complaint data on hundreds of plans, along with links to state insurance sites, for more information on plans in your area.
