The People: The Canadian Blood Services
The Cause: Thank Your Donor

In June of 2008, Canadian Blood Services launched a new website called http://thankyourdonor.ca as a way for blood recipients to express their thanks to donors through stories, photos, or videos.

The goal of the website is to show people how their blood donation can truly make a difference in somebody's life. Many people were coming into blood clinics after receiving a blood donation wanting to say thank you. The Canadian Blood Service wanted to turn that special moment into something greater by giving recipients a place to tell their stories. Whether it's a cancer patient or a car accident victim, the touching and inspiring stories on the website show how your simple donation of blood can be the matter of life or death for someone else.

One story from Angela in Ottawa, Canada reads:

"…My prayer of thanks to the donors turned into a mind-blowing epiphany of how truly interconnected we really are as members of the human race and living beings on this earth. Imagine: your blood and platelets are, in part, why I am here today. I sincerely thank all those who take time to donate. Your gift means so much."
