The Monthly Challenge is a chance for you to get involved! Here’s how it works: Each month, readersdigest.com selects a cause and gives you meaningful ways to take action and make a difference.

For each one, we select, you can pledge to take a Step, Stretch or Leap. All of the contributions you pledge to make are noteworthy—so energize our community through your actions, and join us in making a difference by taking The Monthly Challenge. Here's an example:

The Month of June 2009
Help Support Art in Public Schools

Step: Introduce a child to an area museum and allow him or her to explore art first-hand.

Stretch: Arts education is struggling in schools due to budget cuts. Make a point of donating art supplies to a local school and encourage parents to do the same.

Leap: Provide an opportunity for local children to express their artistic talents. Set a goal of producing an art show at a school in your community during the upcoming year.
