Wish I had read this years ago. I just published my memoir this year, "Divine Betrayal." It is the story of growing up as the daughter of a fundamentalist missionary in Brazil. I loved McCourt's comment on writing your memoir: "It is like preparing yourself to go to confession." I also had to stop worrying about what others thought, and used real names in my story. One has to be truthful and honest .
My 80-something year old aunt wrote her 60 page life story with a company called Heritage Makers. She gave her kids a hardbound book of the story and pictures for Christmas, and then my cousins and I were able to purchase copies as well. They have people all over the country that help you write the book. I think the website is heritagemakers.com.
A new service called FortyChapters.com launched recently to help first-time authors write a book. It's already been used by more than a few to write their memoirs. Worth checking out.
