It is writer's like this that give people bad information and it winds up costing them allot of money. She is wrong on LTC, buying stocks, using index mutual funds, not using a professional money advisor and don't buy investments from your bank. Banks cost more? When you wrote this didn't you know mutual fund charges are in the perspective. Banks are no more costly than a Merrill Lynch. Banks understand the difference between savers and investors. You do not and you mislead your readers.

This article is absolutley wrong in many ways. 57 is the average age of buyers of Long Term Care. The reason is it is much cheaper when you buy it younger. You can buy single premium LTC that costs you nothing is you never use it or pay as you go coverage that is like your car insurance. You lose the premium even if you don't use it. LTC is for the caregiver, not the sick person. Only you can determmine which is right for you! However, you do need to buy one form of the coverage.

The information the author quotes regarding buying Long-term Care Insurance later rather than sooner is indeed WRONG. The current advice given by America's Health Insurance Plans can be read on AHIP's trademark website mylifemyfamily.com/financial-planning . Look for "When to Start Considering Long-Term Care Insurance". It says 40's or 50's in better because the premiums are lower. How the author missed this CURRENT info is beyond me. Next time double check your sources.

The advice that buying long-term care insurance at age 65 doesn't cost much more than buying at age 55 is grossly in error. Not only is the premium much more for being 10 years older, but the consumer would have to purchase a much larger policy 10 years from now due to inflation and would pay much more for the coverage over a lifetime. The section on Long Term Care insurance is entirely wrong. The organization she cites for her completely erroneous advice ("Wait till you're 65 to by LTC insurance because the price is only going to be $126/yr more) America's Health Insurance Plans, actually advises the exact opposite, accurately showing that the price will more than double, if you can even still buy it.

Nolo price for writing your own will is $69.95...not $25 as mentioned.
