Rumor Detectives: True Story or Online Hoax?

Thanks for starting Snopes. I try to check everything out and generally do not forward e-mails unless its "cute" or inspiring or photos etc. I enjoy reading the various stories and rumours.

i have received an email from Joe Biden asking for $5 for OFA. Any comment?

Is it true that snopes is a liberal loving outfit? Obama supporters and bends the truth?

I particularly enjoy receiving some ridiculous email claims including a comment that it has been checked out with snopes.com ... click on the link to snopes.com and see that it was totally false! The most recent Obama bashing one was regarding the lavish "New Cook County Correctional Center in Chicago, Illinois" that received funding help from then Senator Barack Obama. It is actually the Justice and Detention Center in Loeben, Austria!

In some of my e-mails, there will be a comment that this has been checked with Snopes and naturally, I click on oit and sure enough , it goes directly to Snopes, but the Snopes seems a little "fishy" . Could this be true?

Me too, Isabelle...Snopes keeps us from looking like idiots and continuing a myth....

I am always checking snopes.com. It is a very reliable resource.

I've found that Snopes is so trusted that people will believe a hoax if the email they receive says that it has been checked at Snopes. I tell my friends to never accept such a claim: "Check Snopes yourself."

I also go to Snopes right away when getting the "junk" claims and immediately return the email along with the link from Snopes so they can see it's a false claim. Now there is a email going around that Snopes is also a "junk" site. I'd rather rely on Snope. Thank for checking into all the stories and debunking them.
